DRESS CODE

Required for all classes. A cover-up should be worn entering and leaving the studio, and dance shoes should not be worn outside of class.

  • All classes: black leotard or sports bra with black spandex shorts or leggings.
  • Ballet: pink stretch canvas or leather split-sole technique shoes; hair in a bun or secured off the neck.
  • Lyrical/Contemporary: bare feet or dance paws.
  • Jazz: bare feet.
  • Hip-Hop: tennis shoes not worn outside the building.
  • Tap: ages 3–11, tan flat "Mary-Jane" tap shoes with buckle; ages 12+, black flat tap oxfords with ties.
  • Hair must be tied back in a high ponytail for tap, jazz, lyrical, and hip-hop. No jewelry except stud earrings.
  • Shoes and attire available at Stage Center, 908 N. Main St., Akron. Adults: comfortable clothing and appropriate shoes.

TUITION POLICY

Tuition is the same whether the month is long or short, regardless of absences, and is due by the first lesson of the month. A $10 late fee applies after the 7th. Post-dated checks aren't accepted, and a $50 fee applies to returned checks. Accounts over 30 days delinquent may be suspended, and no student may participate in the recital until all fees are paid.

Tuition is non-refundable. Pay the full season by September 30 for a 5% discount. A non-refundable $100 recital fee (includes 4 family tickets) is due by September 15th; extra tickets are $10 each.

SNOW DAYS

Check WKYC i-Alert after 2pm. Students may make up snow days in comparable classes during the week.

COSTUMES & REVUE TICKETS

All dancers in the annual revue must purchase a costume through the studio. Competition team members pay by September 1st; everyone else by October 1st. Costume payments are non-refundable, and unpaid costumes won't be ordered. Costumes are distributed at year-end after May tuition is paid; alterations are the family's responsibility.

MISSED CLASSES & REFUNDS

No pro-rated fees or refunds for missed classes or holidays. Once registered, you're financially committed for the full term. If a teacher cancels for an emergency, a make-up class will be scheduled or the student may attend another class on the schedule.

PRIVATE & SEMI-PRIVATE LESSONS

Private lessons are only made up if the instructor cancels. Missed private lessons are not made up, credited, or transferred.

WITHDRAWALS

Directors must be notified in writing if a child withdraws — until then, the space is held and charges continue. A payment schedule can be arranged for financial hardship. Families experiencing financial difficulty are encouraged to call rather than withdraw.

OBSERVATION & VIDEO TAPING

Parents may not sit in the classroom, video, or take pictures during class unless special arrangements are made — it can distract other students.

ARRIVAL & PREPAREDNESS

Children under 7 must be accompanied by an adult. Students arriving more than 15 minutes late will observe only. Students must arrive dressed to code with hair accessories and extra shoes, all labeled with their name — students who aren't prepared will observe only. No food or drink except water is allowed in studios or dressing rooms.

CLASS DISMISSAL & SAFETY

Class is dismissed by the teacher; early dismissal requires prior parent arrangement at the door. Students must remain in the lobby until picked up and may not wander the halls.

CONDUCT & BEHAVIOR

Respect for directors, staff, curriculum, fellow students, and the facility is expected at all times, on or off-site — behavior matters as much as ability when wearing the studio logo. Parents needing to speak with staff should schedule a meeting rather than interrupt between classes.

INSURANCE

Studio West does not carry medical insurance for students. All dancers must be covered under their own family insurance policy, which is the only source of reimbursement in the event of injury.
